Set-up VERA Access

Become an End User

Step One: Complete Required Training(s) Based on Your User Role

Local Registrars: Please view the recorded training. An assessment will be required to receive your training certificate. Instructions will be provided in the webinar. To view the training for local registrar offices, click here.

Hospitals and Licensed Midwives: There is an online course available in the Learning Management System (LMS). There will be an assessment at the end of the training. To receive your certificate, you must achieve a score of 80% or better. For instructions on how to access the Learning Management System (LMS) and create a user ID, please click here

Hospitals and Licensed Midwives additional training required: NCHS Online Course: Applying Best Practices for Reporting Medical and Health Information on Birth Certificates. In addition to the online training above, hospital birth specialists and licensed midwives must also take the NCHS course. Click here for NCHS training.

Important: Please follow the instructions on the NCHS website before taking the course. An account must be created prior to taking the NCHS course in order to receive a certificate.

Step Two: Go to MILogintp.Michigan.gov

  1. If you do not already have a MILogin account, create a MIlogin ID. For instructions to create MILogin Account, click here.
  2. Subscribe to the Vital Events Registration Application (VERA) in MiLogin
  3. After access approval is granted, log into your MILogin account and the VERA application to download and complete your security agreement.
  4. You will then need to follow the steps to create your profile using the profile builder. Profile builder instructions can be accessed here.

Step Three: Submit Required Documentation

For hospital staff and midwives, the certificate of completion, certificate from NCHS, and a security agreement are the required documents. For hospital staff who will be certifying birth certificates, a letter authorizing the user as a certifier from the hospital CEO or President is required. The letter must include all authorized certifiers.

Local registrar offices will submit their certificate of completion and security agreement.
